Meet Some of the Team

Rush Union brought together some of the best and brightest in coaching and leadership in order to provide your player with the best experience. These coaches and staff members have been involved in Georgia soccer for many years and that's important when you're considering the path you or your player may take. Get to know some of the team who will be on the pitch, provide strategic direction and manage day-to-day operations for Rush Union. Read the bios below to learn more about your coach and other leaders in our community.

Neil Mc Nab

Neil played through the Manchester City youth system from 1994-98. Moved to Portsmouth F.C. in the summer of 1998 and turned professional at Portsmouth in November 1998 where he played until 2001. In April 2001 Neil moved to the USA and during a 4 year span played professionally for the Utah Blittz, Long Island Rough Riders, Syracuse Salty Dogs and the Wilmington Hammerheads until winter 2004. Neil was part of two USL National Championship teams with the Utah Blitzz, and Long Island Rough Riders respectively. Neil coached at various youth programs throughout the U.S. from 2001-2004. In the winter of 2004 Neil started coaching for TYSA (Tucker Youth Soccer Association) where he became Assistant Director of coaching in 2005-2008.
Neil now serves as Executive Director for Rush Union. 

Matt Holmes

Matt Holmes serves as Managing Director/Director of Coaching of the Dunwoody and Pleasantdale locations.  Matt enjoyed a professional career with Birmingham City, Kettering Town FC, Nottinghamshire FA and English Schools Football Associations as well as the British Universities & Colleges of Sport. He’s coached at various levels in ODP, high school, collegiate, Atlanta Silverbacks Elite Youth, GSA ECNL and Silverbacks W-League. He’s decorated with the USSF B, USSF National Youth, United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma (Distinguished Pass), UEFA B, and NSCAA Advanced National. His extensive background garnered two publications in World Class Coaching, the world's leading magazine for soccer coaches.


Juan Castellanos

Juan is originally from Bogota, Colombia. He has put his degree in Exercise Science to good use as a strength and conditioning coach for youth and professional clubs, including the Atlanta Silverbacks. He has a long personal history of playing as well - Youth Divisions Club Deportivo Los Millonarios, Youth World Cup in Argentina 1998; Lanceros Boyaca Fair Play Second Division in Colombia 1998-1999; Gordon College 2000-2002; Brewton Parker College 2002-2004; Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves 2005. He's a respected leader in the state and now coaches 8 teams across various age groups, including an ODP team. He most enjoys helping players with individual development, while strengthening the team.  

Brian Smith

Brian attended San Diego State University and left the sunny west coast to reside in Georgia. He has been coaching for more than 17 years for various clubs, including Forsyth Fusion (2003-2004) Alpharetta Ambush (2005-2006) Texas Rush (2011-2015) and Georgia Rush (2015-). He holds a NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma and is a Iicensed USSF Coach (class C, D, E). He currently coaches Pre-Academy Girls, 2011 Girls, and 2004 Boys for Rush Union.


Mark Bailey

Mark attended Georgia State University and is a USSF National C License coach. He’s spent the last 32 years at clubs in Florida, South Carolina and Georgia, managing rec through Select/Academy U5-U19 Boys and Girls. He has coached teams each year at GA State Cup from 2007-2012. He currently is the Recreational Director, U8 Rec All-Star coach/trainer, and Rec Coaches trainer, and has played in competitive adult leagues for many years.

Steve played his club soccer in Georgia with DDY and TYSA. He played for Tucker High School and went on to play club soccer at Florida State University. Steve began coaching in 1995 and has coached for over 20 years rarely taking time away from it. In 2016 Steve was honored to receive 3 Awards: Georgia Recreational Coach of the Year, Region 3 Recreational Coach of the Year, and US Youth Soccer National Recreational Coach of the Year.  Steve joined the Chiefs staff in the Spring of 2016 after coaching several years in the Recreational program. Steve currently holds his USSF D License.

Cara has been with Georgia Rush since 2015. She is the Administrator for our Recreational, Indoor, as well Pre-Academy Programs. Cara also is the coordinator for our TopSoccer Thunder Program. She is a mother of four, as well as a proud Soccer Mom/Team Manager to her daughter who also is a player with us at Rush Union. Alongside a degree in Health Care Administration, Cara has experience working in Fulton County schools and the Milton/Alpharetta community over the years as a Fundraising Chairperson, Event Coordinator, as well as PTO President. 


Juliet Melvin

Juliet grew up in DeKalb County.  She played soccer starting at age 10 at Blackburn Park for DeKalb County Parks and Recreation and has been involved in soccer ever since.  Juliet worked at Georgia State Soccer Association after graduating from Florida State University until 1999.  Both of her parents, Frank and Barbara Jones, are Life Members of Georgia Soccer.  She has coached recreation, academy and middle school soccer.  She has been the Administrator of Chiefs FC since it was founded, back in 2008.
